The 8th cohort of Schwarzman Scholars has been selected for post-graduate study in China.
Schwarzman Scholars, one of the world’s most prestigious graduate fellowships, has announced its class of 2024. The 151 Scholars were selected from 36 countries and 121 universities around the world. They include 57 American students, who will begin their studies in China in August 2023.
Each Schwarzman Scholar is given the opportunity to study in a one-year, fully-funded Master’s degree program in Global Affairs at Schwarzman College on the campus of Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
This year’s incoming students were selected from an initial pool of nearly 3,000 applicants. Counting the incoming cohort, the eighth in the history of the program, the Schwarzman Scholars network now includes more than 1,000 members, with Scholars coming from a total of 88 countries and 390 institutions worldwide.
As part of this year’s selection, more than 400 candidates from 60 countries were interviewed by panels of CEOs, government officials, university presidents, journalists, and non-profit executives, among others.
“The accomplishments of the admitted class already are truly outstanding.” said Cordel Faulk, Director of Global Admissions. “We are all very excited to welcome these 151 young leaders into the Schwarzman Scholars community. We are confident they will make excellent contributions in the next year and beyond.”
The American students in this year’s class earned their undergraduate degrees from three dozen American institutions, including Ivy League colleges, public universities, HBCUs, small private colleges and military academies.
Several institutions - including Harvard, Spelman, University of Michigan, U.S. Naval Academy, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, Dartmouth, Duke, Yale and the University of Tennessee - were the undergraduate home to more than one Schwarzman Scholar in the class of 2024.

The group includes:
- Members of the Forbes 30 under 30
- Research assistants at several federal agencies
- Congressional staffers
- Interns at the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Department of Transportation, Congress and several other national organizations
- Published authors, poets, and successful musicians
- Founders of start-ups in education, cosmetics, health technology, transportation, block-chain technology, and manufacturing
- Several students enrolled in graduate and professional degree programs.
The Scholars pursue a one-year Master’s degree in Global Affairs with a core curriculum focused on three pillars: leadership, China, and global affairs. They are taught by international and Tsinghua faculty, with frequent guest lectures from other prominent global leaders.
In addition, the Scholars gain exposure to China and access to important relationships through internships, cultural immersion and mentors, and they are provided with a range of career development resources to help them take leadership positions in various industries after graduation.
