Changes 15 Coaching Pros Plan To Make In Their Practices In 2023

Forbes Coaches Council

It’s important for coaches to continuously reflect on their work and take steps to improve their practices to better serve clients and achieve their business goals. Thus, many coaches may be considering making changes or adjustments to their coaching approach this year.

From increasing the visibility of their services to better connecting with the local community, 15 members of Forbes Coaches Council plan to switch things up in their coaching practices this year. Here, they explain why they want to make these changes and what they hope the positive outcomes will be for their businesses and their clients.

1. Aligning Risk And Reward With Clients

I am aligning risk and reward with my clients so that it’s even clearer that we’re on the same side of the table. The bulk of the revenue for my company will come from a percentage of the cost savings or revenue increases our clients achieve—that creates a truer partnership. We’ll be on the same side of the table, solving issues to improve people, processes and profit. - Yvette Owo, Yvette Owo Coaching & Consulting

2. Implementing A Client-Centric Writing Style

One change I plan to make in my coaching practice in 2023 is implementing an intentional writing style that puts the client at the center of my social network communications. I will focus on clear and concise language that speaks directly to the person reading my message. - Kalina Terzieva, My Coaching Brain

3. Increasing My Visibility

Increasing visibility is an area of focus for me because being the “best-kept secret” is not quite ideal when you’re working to grow a practice. The desired outcome will be growing my career coaching practice while increasing the impact on the community that I serve. - Peju Adedeji, Your IT Career

Forbes Coaches Council is an invitation-only community for leading business and career coaches. Do I qualify?

4. Training CEOs On How To Use AI

We’re training CEOs and leaders how to use artificial intelligence to increase productivity and speed and reduce costs. We’re creating more capabilities by demonstrating use cases and giving them the tools and resources they need to become heroes and visionaries in their organizations. We anticipate this will grow our firm by 100% in the first year, while producing massive results for our clients’ businesses. - Mike Koenigs, The Superpower Accelerator

5. Proactively Providing Insights

Now is the time to be prepared and to get connected. In 2023, I will be more proactive in providing insights and coaching tips to clients based on the industry trends shaping up so that they can be prepared. Also, I plan to build a strong community for my coaching practice. - Shruti Parashar, GOALisB

6. Adding More Value To Our Local Business Sector

Over the past decade, we have been a global practice, so we are now looking to add more value to our local business sector and be in support of the local community. Having a stronger community focus will allow us to live our company purpose more meaningfully and with more impact. - Ana Reed, Newmanity

7. Focusing On Leadership Development

So much has shifted during the pandemic, and one change is that leaders are becoming more open to being coached themselves. A leader can be the bottleneck hindering growth; they can also be the change agent. By focusing on leaders, I’ll be indirectly impacting teams and organizations. - Savannah Rayat, Rayat Leadership Coaching

8. Working With Leaders In The Public Sector

I’ve historically worked with clients in for-profit and non-profit sectors, and I am excited to add a public sector arm to my practice with my Small Business Administration certification. I’m looking forward to supporting leaders and aspiring leaders who help make our communities work! - Asia Bribiesca-Hedin, Bridgewell LLC Professional Services

9. Codifying Our Go-To Global Faculty

As the world and organizations continue to struggle with accelerating speed, change and ambiguity, coaching and leadership learning have never been more valuable in helping leaders navigate today’s modern landscape. Leaders and teams are struggling with the system. We won’t get there by doubling down on old tools—look out for a new leadership mindset ahead! - Jodie Charlop, Exceleration Partners

10. Offering More Group Coaching

Offering more group coaching will help me to grow my business and allow me to work with many people at once. In addition, it will give me the flexibility of working from home when I need it. The desired outcome is that this change will increase my revenue. - Willena Long, Career Boss Academy

11. Adjusting My Schedule To Balance Work And Life

Last year, I began clearing my weekends for my family. In 2023, I plan to continue balancing work and life by adjusting my schedule to maximize my high-energy time so that I can accomplish more in less time. - Erica McCurdy, McCurdy Solutions Group LLC

12. Incorporating More Mindfulness Practices Into Sessions

I plan to incorporate more mindfulness practices into my coaching sessions. I believe incorporating these practices will help clients become more aware of their thoughts and emotions, which will ultimately lead to better decision-making and improved overall well-being. I hope this change will lead to more effective and lasting results for my clients. - Jonathan H. Westover, Human Capital Innovations, LLC

13. Sponsoring Sessions For Veterans And Military Spouses

One change I plan to make in 2023 is to sponsor 100 coaching sessions for veterans and military spouses. Those in this diverse and qualified talent pipeline are often overlooked because they are unable to properly translate their military experience. - Jay Garcia, Jay Garcia Group

14. Doing More Embodied Practices

We are so used to being in our heads that we often get trapped there, unable to move forward or get out of paradoxical thinking. Working with the body and through the body to re-establish that fundamental connection with our “soma” creates a new sense of aliveness and opens new possibilities in gentler ways. - Alessandra Marazzi, Alessandra Marazzi GmbH

15. Doing Session Giveaways At Keynote Speeches

I do a lot of keynote speaking, so we are offering our clients a free, one-hour coaching session they can give to someone in the audience. This creates exposure for our services and allows our clients to provide additional value to their employees and members, while the recipients get to work through a meaningful topic of their choice. It’s a win-win for everyone. - Justin Patton, justinpatton.com
