10 Disabled-Led Businesses To Support This Global Accessibility Awareness Day

Following

In honour of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) we are highlighting ten Disabled founded businesses from various different industries. Being an Entrepreneur takes determination, resilience, leadership, time management, adaptability and problem-solving skills, among other crucial attributes. These traits often come naturally to disabled people making many ideal candidates for the (oftentimes gruelling) entrepreneurship journey.

Purchasing from Disabled-led companies is a tangible way to support these founders, foster inclusivity, promote accessibility, and address the funding gap that often hinders the growth of these ventures. By consciously choosing to buy from these businesses, we contribute to building a more equitable and diverse economy while empowering disabled entrepreneurs. As we celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day, let’s remember the importance of supporting and uplifting disabled founded businesses, not just today, but every day, to create a world that embraces accessibility and empowers all individuals to reach their fullest potential.

Motivated by her extensive knowledge and lifelong passion for makeup, Terri embarked on a mission to create a more accessible and user-friendly approach. Joined by Chief Creative Officer Selma Blair, who openly shared her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in 2018, GUIDE Beauty is transforming the beauty industry and fostering a culture of inclusivity through Universal Design.

Bump’n

Bump'n, founded by Disability Consultant and Activist Andrew Gurza and Innovation Strategist Heather Morrison, was born out of a startling realization: a significant number of people worldwide are unable to masturbate due to hand limitations, including pain, immobility, lack of dexterity, and weakness. Extensive research revealed that over 50% of physically disabled individuals surveyed struggle to experience sexual pleasure independently. Surprisingly, despite a resounding 90% expressing their desire for a solution, no products have been designed to address this need. This leaves individuals in a difficult position, relying on others for assistance, paying for professional help, or foregoing sexual satisfaction altogether—an unacceptable predicament. To address this unmet need, Bump'n has assembled an exceptional team of sexual health experts, design professionals, occupational therapists, and most importantly, members of the disabled community.
